I LOVE McCall’s 6553

It’s a Fashion Star pattern and it’s been in queue since it’s debut for about a year. I loved the look when Kara Laricks introduced her design to the world. The dress sold out like a snap when they on sale at Saks 5th. Oh no! I was not going to pay for that dress, only praying it would become a pattern for the public to sew. It did! I grabbed one as soon as they went on sale at Hancock’s.

Very easy dress, as it is labeled, and comes in sizes 6 to 22. I cut the 14. Although the pattern calls for double knit, cotton knit, gabardine, or suiting fabrics, I used a poly/cotton non-stretch blend from the stash. It’s also part of the 2013 Style your Stash challenge over with SarahLiz and the Crew. I’ve had this fabric for a while because I wanted to showcase the print and not chop into it. M6553 was a good choice. Both the fabric and the pattern is flowy and that was great match.

I love everything about this pattern. It’s very sexy yet conservative. To me, it almost have a retro feel. I really love the fact that it has pockets. Not that I would use them but they are there in case I want to.

The construction is great and easy to understand. I followed each step even though I’d done a few out of order due to preference. I could have out this dress together in no time but due to packing for my upcoming move it took me a day to cut the pattern. A day to cut the fabric. And two days to put it together. You don’t really need the directions. I just decided for some odd reason to follow them.

My daughter decided to put in my button:

The back is a slit with a button. I think I used a button that is too heavy but I like it so I’ll keep it.

OH! Wait! It hurts when you acquire something and you LOVE.IT.SO.MUCH but you CAN’T.WEAR.IT! Awe man. My sister gave me these shoes because they were too small for her. And guess what. They are too big for me. However, I know just the person who would love to gain these and add to her stock.

Who said life will be full of gorgeous shoes anyways? Well, I beg to differ! LOL Until next time, Scheryka.

Graduate and Dress: Update

Last night was graduation night! Yay! My big baby is growing up. He’s not grown yet. My babies know Momma’s complete definition of grown is: Grown AND OWN YOUR OWN. I won’t be wordy just pictures for the most part. I’m still tired and have one more graduation to get to. I have to drive 8 hours for this one.

The photos didn’t turn out to well because it was dark, I was using my cell, and it was raining. So we had to what we could.

IMG_0532“Keep still Corey.” He doesn’t like photos.

IMG_0533“Is this good enough, Ma?”

IMG_0534“Come on Ma. You taking too many!”

IMG_0535“Stop!”

IMG_0560One of the lucky shots that look half decent. Yes, I have 5 babies. The oldest is the graduate and the youngest is 9 months.

IMG_0561A little better? (Look at the dress.) Lol

IMG_0562Not good AT ALL!

IMG_0563Again? Nope.

Graduation Ready with M6700

Woo hoo! I have two family graduations to attend this year! My son AND my husband! Yay! One is starting out and one is moving on up! So, you know I had to make a special something something. Can’t be walking in the special ceremony with an ‘old faithful’.

I already had it planned to be made anyways. M6700 Fashion Star pattern is a winner! The fabric is from the stash, of course, since I am also participating in the 2013 Style the Stash Sew A Long.

It is described as ‘Easy’ and ‘Knit’. Misses’ dress and belt. It suggests to have Jersey, Interlock, or Cotton Knit. I used a very pretty black slinky but very substantial knit. Notice I didn’t say what it was. It’s because I don’t remember. That’s why I need to make a fabric book. That’s a goal when I buy new fabric in the future.

M6700

I used 2 yards and I cut the 14.  It comes in 8 to 24 and yields itself beautifully to any size. So there’s no reason for you to say you won’t look good in it. Yes, you will!

The directions were good. The only part that confused me were the strap construction to the shoulder seams. A little unnecessary fiddling. I did things my way and it worked great.

Fresh of the machine:

I want to wear my red t-strap heels but I don’t have red jewelry. What do you suggest?

A Couple of Stash Starts

Sitting back wondering what might be a few things I want to start on for the Style Your Stash Sew A Long and I came up with two items that need to be done soon. McCall’s 6700 is for my son’s high school graduation ceremony in a poly blend knit that’s been in the stash since forever ago. I know why I’ve never cut into it. I wanted that perfect pattern that would make great use of the design. What better way than a maxi that is labeled one the Fashion Star patterns? It has yielded some very delightful results for those who have sewn it before me.

IMG_0475

This one would HAVE to be finished by the 5th. That’s G-Day! Yay! Oh, and by the way, he’s chosen the great USC Gamecocks as his college home for the fall!

I am a Roll Tide fan, but since my son has chosen USC, I can adapt and overcome! But my attire would still be Red, Black, and White! Hey, win win!

My choice second in line is McCall’s 6653 so that I can finish my Pinterest Inspired look. It will be my outfit to my husband’s graduation. Yeap, I have two graduates at once. Yay. winning!

IMG_0476

I can’t seem to get a better shot. The color is actually very close to the color on the model. I’ll be doing view A.

Both fabrics and patterns are stash so, I’m really stash busting, huh?

A couple of other ideas I want to sew up are:

V8711

Vogue 8711 and

B5884

Butterick 5884. I just can’t choose which fabric to use. Both fabric is airy and flows just right for this pattern. I am leaning more towards the blue. I am just wondering how would the stripes actually turn out since the pattern does says *not suitable for obvious diagonals*. I believe I would have to place a few pieces in order for the stripes to stay horizontal. I don’t know, but maybe I’ll find out soon enough. What do you all think?
